It has been my intention to leverage social media to encourage, to uplift, to bring about a smile or even a laugh or two every now and then. But today, I cannot find the positive in this day of shame in my city of Dallas. Instead, I weep. Dallas, have you no shame? On this the day that a young mother lays her son’s body to rest; a son, tragically struck down for no reason other than being in his own home, behind “closed” doors, minding his own business; on this day, you the Dallas media show the upmost disrespect for the human spirit. On this day, you the Dallas media, choose to focus your reporting on something of absolutely no relevance to the case, found in this man’s home. Have you no shame Dallas? What happened to compassion? To courtesy? To respect? Why not rather give us some insights into who this young man was? What were his dreams? His hopes? What was the spirit of the man that was so abruptly snuffed out? I grew up in a day where you stopped or pulled over to the side as a funeral procession passed. You most likely had no clue for who the deceased was, but you respected the family and the transition of the soul from this world to the next. But on this day, this mother, in her deepest sorrow has to see her son referenced for something he privately did in his own home in a negative, insinuating, accusing light. Where is the dignity in that? Where is the comfort? Where is the respect? Shame on you Dallas!
This is why we kneel! This is why we march. This is why we protest. This is why we’re angry. This is why we weep in despair.
This is Dallas.
This is America.
Shame!
